Aiko Mori, twenty years at the wood kiln

Twenty years of porcelain and stoneware from the kiln Aiko Mori built on the Wrenfield road, from her first celadon vessels to the black tenmoku forms of the last few years.

Mori throws her tall forms in two sections and joins them while the clay is soft; the seam is the faint ring at the shoulder.

  • A large round white porcelain moon jar, slightly irregular in shape, creamy glaze with warm pooled spots.
  • A wide stoneware bowl with a natural ash glaze, green glassy drips running down from the rim over warm brown clay.
  • Two small handleless stoneware tea cups with a dark iron-brown glaze, one slightly taller than the other, side by side.
  • A black stoneware vessel with a glossy tenmoku glaze that breaks to rust brown on the edges and the rim.
